Secondary schools are invited to apply to take part in the 2017-2018 Game Changers inter-school negotiation skills and exchange program, conducted by PATHWAYS and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Belgium. Six two-day workshops will be conducted with 12 schools, both Francophone and Flemish, paired from different neighborhoods and socio-economic backgrounds. One workshop day will be hosted at each school, with students from their partner school. Students will be brought together to build practical interest-based negotiation and creative problem solving skills through hands-on, experiential learning, while breaking down stereotypes and creating inter-school connections.
The Game Changers workshops will be coordinated together with teachers and conducted fully in English. To receive further information, please contact us using the form the on the site.
The 2017-2018 Game Changers program is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Belgium.
Which students and teachers can participate?
All motivated teachers are welcomed to take part (in particular teachers of English, Philosophy, Citizenship, Social Sciences). We are looking for groups of 20 committed 5th and/or 6th grade students from each school, from any educational track (including professional).
What English levels are required?
The program is conducted in English, allowing students to practice and benefit from a two day immersion without scrutiny or pressure. To fully participate, students must feel comfortable expressing themselves and reading short scenarios in English. Sessions with teachers will also be conducted in English.
How much does the program cost?
Schools only cover the cost of lunch, drinks and snacks for participants from both schools on the day on which they host the workshop, and any other related incidental expenses. Travel costs are the responsibility of the participants. Other costs are covered by a grant from the U.S. Embassy in Belgium.
How much time is required?
Teachers will need to attend: a program launch session; parts of the student workshop; two teacher workshops; and a final evening event.
When and where will the program take place?
Student workshops will be scheduled with schools for November 2017 – March 2018. Each two-day Game Changers workshop will be held at participating schools (one day at each school) during the school week. Teacher workshops will be held in central Brussels.
